This page explains what happens to your information when you use the GAP Profile at gapprofile.co.uk. The GAP Profile is run by Joe Markland. If you have a question about your information, email [email protected].
Your answers stay in your browser
The career move you describe, your answers and your results are worked out in your own browser. They aren't sent to me, and I can't see them.
While you're taking the assessment, your progress is saved in your browser's session storage so you don't lose it if the page reloads. Browsers usually clear session storage when you close the tab, but some keep it when they restore tabs. The site ignores saved progress after 24 hours. Choosing "Retake from the start" on the results page also clears it.
The site doesn't use cookies or advertising trackers.
Counting completed assessments
When your results appear, the site sends a randomly generated attempt number to a Google Sheet, through Google Apps Script, so I can count how many assessments are completed. The sheet records that number and the time. It doesn't receive your name, email address, answers, results or the career move you describe, and the number can't be linked back to you.
Services the site relies on
When you load any website, your browser shares technical details such as your IP address with the services that deliver it. For this site, those are:
- GitHub Pages, which hosts the site. GitHub may keep technical logs for security and operations.
- Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces.
- unpkg, which supplies the code library the assessment is built with.
- Google, which runs the sheet that counts completed assessments.
None of these services receive the career move you describe, your answers or your results.
If you buy a workbook or book a session
Workbook purchases are handled by Payhip, and session bookings by Calendly. When you follow those links, you're using their services, and their privacy policies apply to the details you give them. I receive what those services pass on to me to complete your purchase or booking, such as your name and email address.
Saving and sharing your results
"Save my results as a PDF" uses your browser's own print feature, so the file is created on your device. "Share my GAP Profile result" uses your device's share menu or clipboard, and you choose where it goes.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what information I hold about you, and ask me to correct or delete it. Email [email protected]. If you're unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
